I've been told that the coastline off Steinhatchee
is loaded with ledges. If you got to the above fishing spots, you
should be able to find lots of other ledges located in the same areas.
Most people have been bottom fishing using
a 6oz. to 8oz. egg weight tied to slip between two swivels with an additional
3 to 5 ft. of mono leader and a 6/O to 8/O hook, preferable a saltwater
hook by Eagle Claw or Mustad.
The best baits have been Cigar Minnows, Spanish
Sardines, Pinfish, Squid, and Thread Herring.
Another newer method of fishing for grouper
is by trolling. The Mann's Stretch 30+ and Stretch 25+ Lures will
dive 25 and 30 plus feet. Many serious fisherman use downriggers along
with the lures allowing them to get as many baits in the water as possible.
